The Sherwood Engineering Design Center team began working together in the early 1980s in the cable TV converter business - back in the days when sync suppression scrambling ruled and addressable systems were just beginning to be explored. We have followed cable and satellite TV through the transition to digital audio and encryption, piracy, digital video, smart cards, and to piracy again. We are experts in the area.
In recent years, we have consulted for some of the biggest names in satellite and cable TV, including General Instrument, Scientific Atlanta, and Comstream to name a few. We assisted one client (TeleTV) in its analysis of competitive bids for a billion+ dollar digital MMDS system. We developed the design concept and protocols for implementation of a conditional access control system for a DVB compliant receiver for one customer.
Our expertise in cable and satellite TV is augmented by a unique understanding of security and piracy, and experience with applicable patents. This mix enables us to provide valuable consulting services to our clients in the satellite and cable TV industries.
Our team has designed the following products:
- Scramblers/descramblers
- Addressable products
- Modulators and demodulators
- Headend products
- Data transmitters and receivers
- IR remote controls
