Consumer Electronic Appliance Design and Development
Consumer electronic appliance product design is one of Sherwood Engineering Design Services' strongest suits. We are experts at designing new features into consumer appliances and finding innovative ways to lower costs. In fact, you can find our design innovations in consumer products and appliances that you can buy at your local Walmart or Target store.
Following are just a few of the consumer electronic appliances and products that incorporate electronics designed by Sherwood Engineering.
AccuTemp™ Heaters
Holmes, the #1 manufacturer of space heaters, contracted with Sherwood Engineering for the design of the electronic circuitry for Holmes Products' AccuTemp™ series of heater and fan appliances. This heater is the first portable heater designed with a digital programmable thermostat. Sherwood Engineering's controller circuit monitors and maintains a precise temperature setting to a resolution of one degree. For safety, we designed the circuitry in the heater to turn off the heater in an overheat situation. The appliance product operates at three heat settings, and incorporates a directly driven LCD display circuit and a user friendly interface.
Sherwood Engineering also designed the electronics in Rival's Smart-Pot™ Recipe slow cooker appliance product. A microcontroller inside the appliance controls access to recipes stored in memory. Using the touchpad, the consumer navigates through menu selections to display the recipe of his choice. In cooking mode, the consumer can select the cook time and temperature and when the Recipe Smart-Pot™ is finished cooking, it automatically changes to the warm setting.
Sherwood Engineering designed the electronic circuitry, including the ASIC, that controls Rival's Smart-Pot™ series of crockpots and slow cooker appliances. The ASIC and associated electronic circuits enable the consumer to set the temperature and the cooking time. Once the cooking time elapses, the ASIC automatically changes to the Warm setting to prevent over-cooking.

Sherwood Engineering designed the electronics in ZTech's PAL personal emergency response product. In an emergency, the microcontroller in the product dials an 800 number, sends data, and enables an operator to talk and listen to the person who needs help.

This thermostatically controlled window fan won Holmes Products a design award! Sherwood Engineering is proud to have designed all of the circuitry that makes this fan so cool!
Sherwood Engineering designed the electronic circuitry for Holmes Products 1 Touch™ Humidistat ... the brains behind 1 Touch™ humidifiers. The consumer presses the mode/off button to select the speed and humidity setting. As the consumer presses the 1 touch button the unit scrolls through the options at each speed. The appliance is turned off by pressing the button and holding it for 2 seconds. This is all operated by Sherwood Engineering's low cost ASIC design.

First Texas - a premier name in metal detectors - incorporates electronics designed by Sherwood Engineering. In fact our microcontroller firmware controls the operation of the vast majority of First Texas metal detectors on the market today.
Holmes 1Touch™ heater appliances use the latest in thermostat technology with electronic circuitry designed by (you guessed it) Sherwood Engineering. These easy to use electronic thermostats maintain the room to a predetermined temperature setting. One button does it all: sets power, precise temperature, and wattage.
